Ruutu
The delicate simplicity of the Ruutu (“diamond” in Finnish) vase by designers Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec belies the intricate process it takes the most skilled artisans at the Iittala Glass Factory to create the perfectly symmetrical pieces. Each vase is a masterpiece taking seven craftspersons a full twenty-four hours to produce. A modern classic, the vibrant fluidity of the Ruutu mouthblown glass vase has earned it the prestigious iF Product Design Award and the Red Dot Award. Hand-finished with a lively glaze that reflects light beautifully, the Ruutu vases look elegant when grouped or alone.
Ronan (b. 1971) and Erwan (b. 1976) Bouroullec grew up in Quimper, France, and studied in Paris and Cergy-Pontoise. In 1999 they became partners in their Paris studio. Their work ranges from everyday objects to furniture and architectural projects. The strength of their collaboration lies in a commitment to care, balanced by their different personalities.
